Story of Goyobo Studio

Hi, I’m Zarahi, the artist behind Goyobo Studio — a cozy world inspired by my beloved cat, Goyobo.

I’m originally from Monterrey, Mexico, where I was born and raised, and I now live in Irvine, California with my amazing husband and our two cats.

Goyobo Studio began in 2021, when my cat Goyobo was diagnosed with heart failure. Her treatment was expensive, and I didn’t know how I was going to afford it. I started creating art inspired by her, hoping that maybe, somehow, it could help me pay for her care.

Goyobo had been with me since I was 14 years old. She was there through the most important moments of my life in Mexico, and later through the huge transition of moving to the U.S. She was my emotional support during some of my hardest times, especially while I was learning to build a new life far from home.

Sadly, in 2022, I had to say goodbye to her but even through the grief, I decided to continue this project in her memory.

Goyobo Studio is more than a shop or a dream of becoming an artist. It’s a space that helped me heal after losing someone so deeply loved. Through this work, I get to remember her and keep a small piece of her warmth in the world.

Every illustration, every product, every character I create carries a little bit of her spirit with it.

Thank you for your support. I hope Goyobo brings a little bit of joy to your day, just like she brought so much joy to my life.
